There's Only One First Shot!

As we head into this season of gratitude, I've been reflecting a lot. I've been teaching for almost ten years now, and while there's always something new to learn, practice, and sharpen, one thing keeps rising to the top of my heart: the importance of a great first experience for people who are brand new to firearms.

If you've ever wondered which classes I love teaching most, here's your answer. It's the ones filled with completely green students. The folks who have never held a firearm. The ones who walk in a little nervous, maybe a little skeptical, and sometimes not even sure why they signed up.
New shooters have always been the heart of our business at E3 Personal Defense, and I don't take that lightly. We can always get better. We can always tighten our grip, refine our stance, or smooth out our trigger press. But there's only one first shot.
Why The First Shot Matters So Much
That first shot carries more weight than most people realize. It can shape how a person chooses to protect themselves for years. It influences how they see firearms long after they leave the range. It can determine whether their children will be taught how to be safe around guns. And when it's done right, with solid instruction and a strong safety foundation, it helps prevent negligent discharges we'll never even know about.
That's a big responsibility, and we gladly carry it.
The Part that Matters Most
Still, that first shot has another side, and for me, it matters even more. This is the side that truly makes this work ministry.
That first shot can bring healing. It can be therapeutic. I've had students release screams, cries, and tears as they fight to overcome something heavy in their lives. Somehow, that single shot gives them permission to let it go. I've prayed with students. I've hugged them. I've given more pep talks than I can count. And I've watched so many, especially women, build real confidence through firearms training. It's not because of the gun, but because they finally understood how important they are as individuals.
That's the center of everything I do. As I've always said, the gun is just a tool. I care about people, whether they ever choose to carry a firearm or not. My heart's desire is simple: that every student who walks through our doors knows they are worthy of being defended. It's about confidence!
A Heart of Thanksgiving
So today, I just want to say thank you. Thank you to every student who has joined us on this journey so far. We've watched many of you go from first shots to instructor certification. Some of you have started your own firearms training businesses (and we couldn't be prouder!). Others have taken what you learned and used it to educate survivors of domestic violence, teach children about safety, or help your own families build an effective self-defense plan. Every one of those stories fills my heart. I'm thankful for it all.
The Work Continues
If you've been thinking about taking that first step, this is your sign. You may be completely new or ready to take your skills to the next level. Either way, we'd love to walk alongside you. Your first shot is waiting, and we'll be right there with you when you take it.
Here's to the next ten years of empowering, educating, and enthusing!
Be Dangerous.
